Wall insulation is an important stage of any repair
There are three strategies for placement of insulation for walls: external, internal and insulation, arranged inside the wall.
Wall insulation outside
External insulation is beneficial in that it saves space inside the room, provides additional sound insulation for the building, protects walls from destruction, and prevents freezing. Thanks to outdoor insulation, it becomes warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
Most often, the insulation outside is carried out using foam. First, the facade is thoroughly cleaned and plaster defects. Install start profiles. It is important that there be gaps between them for thermal expansion. Next, stick the foam plates to the facade. They are laid as close as possible, and the seams between them are sealed. The plates are fixed with dowels and reinforced corners. The wall is plastered, reinforced with an alkali-resistant net, and applied with a decorative coating.
The most modern material for outdoor insulation is extruded polystyrene foam. It is somewhat more expensive than foam, but its thermal conductivity is much lower and the thickness of the layer required for insulation is less. It is not damaged by mice, does not burn, does not absorb moisture. The technology of its installation is the same as for foam.
Even for the insulation of facades using mineral wool. This insulation is durable, not damaged by rodents, fire resistant, but expensive, hygroscopic and requires special skills for installation.
Wall insulation from the inside
If it is impossible to insulate the wall outside, apply internal insulation. This method is less preferable, as the wrong device for insulating from the inside can worsen the situation, adding dampness to the cold. In addition, the area of the room is reduced, sometimes very noticeably.
It is recommended to start the insulation of the room with the most complete drying of the walls. Also do not forget about antifungal treatment. It is necessary to carefully prepare the surface for insulation, so that after its installation there are no voids left. The material used for internal warming should be vapor proof, or it is necessary to provide vapor barrier in other ways.
For internal insulation also use foam and extruded polystyrene foam. Install them on glue. It is very important that the joints are as small as possible, and they are well fitted and sealed.
There is also a number of liquid insulation, which are applied to the pre-cleaned, even surface with several layers. It is impossible to significantly warm the room with their help, but if there is no possibility to allocate enough space for the insulation device, this is the best option. Such heaters do not burn and are not affected by mold.
Insulation inside the wall
If the floor space allows, sometimes build an additional thin wall. The inner space between the outer and built wall is filled with insulating materials.
It should be noted that often to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room, it is necessary to insulate not only the walls, but also the floor, and sometimes the roof.
